  • Unpremultiplied TGA option for Vray

    Hi Guys,

One of the chaps at works seems to be having issues specifying an unpremultiplied alpha for his TGA's in maya. In max you get this dialog where you can specify the premult options:

In the maya software renderer and in mental ray you can untick premultiply and it gives you unpremultiplied alphas:

But in Vray he can find no such option? Anyone know how to save out unpremultiplied TGA's from Vray using maya?

I have searched all over the place for him but i have literally come up with nothing so i can only assume we are doing something wrong!

For the moment V-Ray always outputs premultiplied alpha and there is no way to change this behavior; if you need it unpremultiplied, you will have to un-multiply in manually in whatever compositing application you are using.

      Hey Vlado,

Thanks for reply. Is there any plans to change this? This creates an issue when you want to go back into photoshop if you are doing high res print work. Its a real hassle having to go through nuke/fusion to unpremultiply the renders. Especially if you are doing a car configurator with hundreds of render passes! Obviously, if you use the premultiplied images and colour correct them you will get artefacting on the edges which is why im asking.

      Cheers,

It is somewhere on the "to do" list, but as there are work-arounds it kind of always gets pushed down the list I will try to make it a bit higher priority.

        Best regards,
