  • Resetting the V-Ray VFB

    This has come up a number of times, and I always forget the exact command so I thought I'd add a sticky topic If the V-Ray VFB disappears (f.e. if you open a scene which was saved with a VFB on a second monitor, but you don't have one), do the following:

    1) Open the scene;
    2) Before any rendering is done (this is important!) open the script editor and type this MEL command:
    Code:
    setAttr "vraySettings.vfbSettingsArr" -type Int32Array 0;
    3) The next time you render, the VFB will be initialized in its default position and size.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

    Sometimes it's not enough, you need to also follow this :

    Place the mouse pointer on the bottom task bar (on Windows), over the very smal preview Window named "VRay-Frame buffer" (the VFB itself is not visible, it's preview icon is visible, but impossible to select).
    A glimpse of the real VFB appears, place the mouse pointer over it, then Right-click-->Enlarge.

      Yes, unfortunately we had to go back to the Qt version of the VFB for the next service pack for stability reasons, which means it is no longer available in the task bar. The above fix works fine so long as you have not done any rendering yet. If you have, you'd need to reopen the scene and enter the command right afterwards.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

          Any idea what causes this Vlado?? Is there some trigger to avoid that causes the garbage settings??

            We found that it can happen when the VFB is minimized and you save the scene.

              I have this problem on a stable nightly (build 22419), with Maya2013 on Windows Seven 64bit.

              Was it not fixed a few months ago ?
              Cheers.

                this can also happen when an artist with two monitors saves out their scene, and an artist with one window opens the scene...and the VFB is still in the phantom 2nd monitor. I've deployed a shelf button for our crew with Vlado's code at the top of this thread, and everyone knows if they're missing the VFB, to re-open the file, hit the WTFisTheVFB button...and lo it appears again.

                  ehh I had this happen and was not saving or anything. I do have 2 monitors though. But I just went to gram the title bar to move it out of the way and it just shrunk down real small and looked like it might have gone off the side of the screen. It was hard to tell it happened in a fraction of a second.

                    Were you able to reset VFB position/size following vlado's tip from the first post ?

                      I didn't know it at the time and used the method of editing the .ma file to correct it by deleting the the vrfb info from the scene file and reloading it. Wish I had scene this at the time would have been easier.

                        There is now a button for this in the (you guessed it ) nightly builds.

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

                          LOL! awseome. does it still have the limitation of having to be a fresh session having not rendered anything yet?

                            Yes, there is still that. I know it's a bit inconvenient, but haven't had time to look into it yet.

                            Best regards,

                              On 2.3 it never happen ,on 2.4 its all day long!
                              On the 3.0 it's really ok.
