  • Problems with new build

    Hi ,
i just installed the new build Vray for maya.
My outdoor sequence still renders fine (fur/grass seems really faster), but my indoor one would just freeze after loading maps.
Both scenes where build before the patchand were rendering quite well, i noticed that when loading my indoor set vray was switching some presets :
Sampler switched from adaptive subdivision to adaptive DMC, GI Irmap rate sliders where not even affecting the render,
and even with switching everything to it's lowest quality;render was still utterly slow.
I have re-written my rendering presets on a patched vray version but it does not speed up the render.
I' d really like to work with this new patch but atm we just decided to downgrade vray to it's previous version.
Anyone in the same case and has found a workaround ?

    Hi,

What are the version numbers for the working and non-working V-Rays?
What OS and Maya versions are you using?
Is it possible to send us the scene, so we can see what's wrong?

We are using 64bit versions of :Maya 2009 SP1a on Windows XP pro version 2003 sp2,Vray 2.00.04 and it works fine, the issue came up while upgrading to Vray (2.20.01 64b still).
Unfortunately i cannot send my scene :ยง

Have you tried to hide some of the objects in the scene?
Do you have subdivision surfaces? NURBS? Displacement?

Have you looked at the render log? Can you paste it here?

we tried to hide lights, meshes , and most of the stuff in the scene , it still freeze at "render image..."
The scene has no vray subdivs , no renderable nurbs , no displacement. Most of the model is referenced.

Do you still get the same issue with the latest nightly/stable
            builds?

            Best regards,
            Vlado

I think we downloaded the latest version available for download , i don ' t see any nightly/stable versions mentionned.
We tried with V2.20.01 and got the issue.

              Best regards

Instead of hiding stuff in the scene, did you try to delete it ?
Sometimes the result is really different.
And if you get a scene that still bugs with most stuff deleted, you will not have problems sending the scene anymore (as sensitive material would be gone).

Render freeze was due to the usage of Average for the Tree build quality option. We made some changes on the tree in Maya because of some previous issues.
We will advise you to leave these options with their default values, unless you know exactly how they affect the render process.

I'm thinking we should just hide the "tree build quality" option; it was added as a fix for a very specific situation, and it is not safe to modify it in most cases.
