  • Rendering VRay edges in smooth preview mode

I'm trying to render the wireframe of a model in the smooth preview mode (3 key), but some edges render out as thick lines even though the line thickness is set very low (0.25 pixels), I tried changing to world units but the result is the same. The VRay edges tex is currently plugged into the diffuse channel of a default VRayMtl and there are no lights in the scene. I notice that these artifacts usually occur in low-poly models when the edges tend to spread out too much, so I'm wondering if there's a workaround for the same.

I'm using Adaptive Subdivision with a 2 and 4 sampling rate.

    A sample render is attached.

There's no attachment, but I'm familiar with the issue; it happens because the edges are calculated by reprojecting the shaded point on the original low-poly cage. I'm not sure if there is a ready work-around unfortunately.

You could try using the world-space edge width though - it may prove to be more consistent.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Oh darn.. well, thanks anyway! I'll play around more with world units. For a few models which already had UVs laid out, I just took a large enough UV snapshot and re-applied it as a texture to get a decent wireframe.. actually worked well in my case.
