  • vray maya irradiance map "contains render IDs"

I cooked out an irradiance map for 2000 frames using "animation prepass"

The scene rendered beautifully with an initial flattened beauty pass on the masterLayer.

Today, I updated my geo (environment scene) from the modeling department - nothing changed. No lighting, no materials, no scaling. Only thing that did change was some VRay Object Property nodes I've been using for mattes in render layers ... basically developing the scene for compositing.

When I went to use my irradiance map, everything except the character (which had no addt'l VROP nodes applied) rendered all screwed up. I opened the maps in the irradiance map viewer, and it looks perfect. I even rendered a fresh irradiance map on a single frame, then merged it with one of the original irradiance maps - they're identical.

I think the problem has something to do with "rendering IDs", which I saw under the file->properties tab of the irradiance map in irradiance map viewer. I know that people override GI surface IDs to get rid of artifacts or light leaks or small objects rendering black, however I have left this attribute alone on all the Vray Object Property nodes in my scene.

Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this, or view the "rendering ID" of an object or irradiance map sample? I don't have time to re-render the entire IM again, and I'm pretty much screwed if I can't fix it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Do you still keep the original scene which rendered fine?

    Best regards,

      Hi Vlado,

I did keep the original scene - I was able to pull it out of the incrementalSave file and render it, although without the new objects I had added, since they apparently toasted the render IDs.

You answered my concerns about this in another nearby post. Will be following this topic if you ever choose to implement a way to tie objects or inspect rradiance maps that is not hidden behind the scenes.

      Thanks for your help!
