  • Distributed Rendering Freezes

Sometimes my batch render in Maya2012 freezes and just hangs indefinitely at a percentage done when I use distributed rendering?

I generally never batch render in Maya from the file menu when Maya is open, so I'm not sure if this problem would or would not be present in that scenario. It happens once in a while and not too often, but it creates a need for me to constantly check my renders at work to make sure. I usually cancel the render at this point and set my batch (.bat) file to render from the frame it froze at. It starts and finishes that frame without a problem, so it's not a particular frame that is causing it.

What could cause this to happen?
    - One of the network computers losing network connection?
    - The computer running the V-Ray license dongle losing connection?
    - Some Windows background activity, like an automatic update?

We use Maya2012 (64-bit) on Windows 7 professional (64-bit) and have a gigabit network.

I don't think it's either of these actually... Can you get me a .dmp file from the mayabatch.exe process the next time this happens? With mayabatch still running, open Task manager, right-click on the mayabatch.exe and select Create dump... It will be a rather large file, but it should compress fairly well. We can also get you an FTP info to upload it.

The .dmp file tells exactly what is going on at that moment and where in the code it is stuck.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.
