  • VFB GI Prepass Rendering slowdown (mouse idle issue?)

    Hi.

I notice that the VFB GI Prepass Rendering is really slow in the latest (non nighty) version. It happends when the mouse is in idle mode. If no mouse or wacom pen moving is happen, the buckets are rendering really slow and not all of them are shown up, when i move the mouse or pen, the buckets are rendering is really fast and all of them are clearly visible.

    rendertimes

    no moving mouse:
    [2012/Jun/5|10:59:14] V-Ray: Total frame time 0h 1m 40.4s (100.4 s)

    with moving mouse:
    [2012/Jun/5|11:02:19] V-Ray: Total frame time 0h 0m 48.5s (48.5 s)

    System:

    Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Maya 2011 64bit, Intel Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8GB Ram
    V-Ray: V-Ray for Maya version 2.20.01 from Feb 1 2012, 18:38:39
    V-Ray: V-Ray core version is 2.00.01

If you need further informations, just let me know.

Have you tried a newer nightly or stable build - I think this is fixed there.

Does it matter if you use the V-Ray VFB or the Maya RenderView? (Probably not, but asking just in case.)

            Best regards,

it just happen in the VFB. Rendering in the normal Renderview is fine. but i will double check it in a few secs, but in the past it was always fine in the renderview.

Ok. Latest Nightly Version it also happens in the Maya Renderview.

                no moving mouse rendertime:
                2min 7sec
                constantly moving mouse rendertime:
                1min 1sec

Ok then; will make a note to look into it. For the time being you can simply turn off the GI preview - it appears that it causes many Qt draw events, which V-Ray cannot process right away so you have a lag.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

                      Hi Vlado.

This qt draw event think happens also when Vray is rendering the image. Its clearly visible if you have black areas, where vray is usally rendering really fast.

                      cheers,
                      Kay

It could be; on the bright side, it should be a constant time, so for images that take relatively long to render it will not add much to the render time.

With that said, I haven't really noticed such a slowdown here. Can you tell me what is your hardware configuration?

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado
