  • Set memory limit on slaves when using DR

Is it possible to set the limit of memory used by vray render slave?

the problem is my workstation has 16gb of ram, but my slave only has 8. when doing a distributed render, the slave machine will crap out after the memory hits the 8gb limit..

On small scenes it works perfectly, but on large scene with lots of textures the slave will refuse to work after hitting its memory limit.

Using maya 2012 win 7 on both boxes.

It depends; if you use tiled textures, you can use the VRAY_TEXTURE_CACHE environment variable to control the memory used for textures.

    Best regards,

hmm, no I'm not using tiled EXR textures at the moment, I tried converting a scene using Deex fast plugin, which as a EXR tiler generator. ran it but the scene didnt want to render with it.

Is there perhaps a switch we can include in the startup of the render slave? perhaps in the next version, that would be great to be able to set a memory limit on the slave machines.
