  • VrayLightMTL + Particles illuminating scene dont work.

    Heya

I'm using Mayas old particles to get some simple motion for project. I then want to use it as light source to light my scene but as long as I turn on Direct Illum in shader they dont render anymore. Is there any specific workflow I have to follow to get these particles to do what I want them to do ?

    Thanks, bye.

    Hello Dadal,

We've tested and reproduces the same issue here. We will add it in our "to-do" list.
A workaround to this issue is to use instancer to replace particles with specific shape - and then to bake instancer objects with this script:

Add a VrayLightMtl to the baked objects and Direct Illumination option will work fine.

      Heya

Thats good its in ''to-do'' list

As to solution thats pretty much what I did so all worked well at the end.

Maybe an extra add on would be to add VrayLightCustomShape with particle support if its not there yet... I suppose a copy of particle system by vraylight would do the trick to light the scene with for animations and so on...

Also if I may ask how do we get to use Vray Light Mesh and Vray Light Mesh Link Linking? I think it might be bugged I get

// Warning: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2013/scripts/AETemplates/AElightCommon.mel line 104: Node type 'VRayLightMesh' is not a DAG node; ignoring parenting information. //
// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2013/scripts/others/replaceNode.mel line 93: The source attribute 'VRayLightMesh3.lightData' cannot be found. //

If you open the Relationship editor for light linking, you will see a node named "...vrayLightMeshProperties_lightlink" - it controls the light linking for the mesh light.

        Best regards,
