That's my good deed for the day, back to kicking small children and puppies so.

It seems like it would be very useful for vray to tell you when it is making these under the table changes.
For instance, if I have my max subdivs cranked to 128 it seems like vray should have a dialog box that pops up after the render that says something like: Since your DMC subdivs were set to 128 we reduced your light subdivs to .25. It would just be useful to be able to look at a box like that and be able to see immediately: Oh my lights subdivs have been decreased to an unacceptable level. Or oh my material subdivs have been halved by vray. Or things like that.

Yep - I'd like some more statistics too. What you can use as a bit of a guide though is the sample rate element - it'll change the colour of the pixels in the render to show you what level of AA sampling is being used - red pixels mean it's using close to your max aa samples, blue being the minimum. Lets say you check an object with a glossy material in the reflection element and it's very noisy, you can go back to your sample rate and see is the same objects red for high AA which means the objects might be having their material samples reduced. From there you can choose to either reduce your aa and thus use more of your material samples, or just turn up the reflection subdivs for that material instead. It's a bit of a juggling act but not bad when you do it a few times.
