  • lots of lights and lots of memory problem

In the scene I am trying to render I have a lot of lights. About 4000 vray rectangle lights.
Although I am only using them for the specular and only a few hundred of them are visible at the same time, these lights take in about 12 gigs of extra ram.
When I am using pointlights they don't take in any ram at all.
It seems that vray reserves a few mb of ram per light no matter what kind of settings you are using.
Does somebody know a way to make vray use less memory for these vray lights?

    tnx

Are you using any textures for the lights? Is their "use tex" option enabled?

      Thanks for the quick reply.
No I don't have the "use tex" option enabled.
If you make a new scene and create 1000 vray lights and render it, you can see it will take a big amount of memory regardless of any settings in those lights.
I am using a nightly build by the way (version 22347)

I know it's a simple scene, but can you get me an example? Just in case I'm missing something.

        Best regards,

Yes sure, I attached a sample scene with 2500 lights.
On my computer it will take 14 gigabyte to render the scene.

This issue should be fixed in the next night build.
Please test it and report if there are more problems related to it.
