    Hi,

Can you provide the log from the V-Ray standalone?
It seems that the V-Ray standalone is crashing or just dropping the connection.

Also does it happen with a specific scene or it is scene agnostic?

        Hm, strange.

When RT is started V-Ray starts an instance of V-Ray Standalone.
This instance is run in background, inside a command prompt window.
So you should be able to alt-tab to it.

Of course this happens if you've not registered the V-Ray slave as a service. Then it is not possible to see the log.

ok.. there is no VraySlave as a service running. just the VrayMayaSpawner´s and the VRLService for the licensing. I started the VraySlave manually and i get this..

The error is pretty clear. But i dont know why the log is saying there is a server already running? i dont see the vray standalone service and maya is closed at the moment.

I think i will uninstall all the vray stuff and reinstall it again. maybe that helps..

In fact this is the service.
You have to stop it from the service management and try again to render with RT.

ah okay. but i'm sure i did that a few times. however i deinstalled everything, vray 2011-2013, Phoenix for Maya. And just reinstalled vray for maya 2011 and now it works again.

its strange that i have that problem already since a few weeks and the service was not running correctly after rebooting the system and all that stuff.. hm

              but thanks for your support.

Is there a solution to this problem? I am using Maya 2012 nightly build in windows and I can't start RT. There is no V-Ray service running on the machine.. Actually all workstations are having this issue as well.

mdskay, one thing to try is using your machine's local IP as an alternative to the default localhost (127.0.0.1).

open a Windows command prompt, type ipconfig and hit enter. Note your "IP address" and use that as an alternate in Vray's license server.

Bear in mind that by default Windows grabs a new local IP whenever you reboot your router so in order to not need to repeat this process, you'll need to set up a static IP http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249...-or-windows-7/

Note I have no idea why I need to do this in the first place, because the default 127.0.0.1 should always just refer to the local machine, but even after disabling any security software it doesn't work so I'm forced to point Vray to my machine using the aforementioned method. I'll have a look at my hosts file actually, come to think of it...

I am using a static IP for this machine. Edited DR settings to try and force just the ip address, along with editing the windows hosts file to remap. No luck. Thanks for the help though.
