Glass without refractive caustics? Is it possible? Mine makes everything black.

  • Glass without refractive caustics? Is it possible? Mine makes everything black.

    Just curious if it is possible to render a glass object without having to use refractive caustics? If I turn off refractive caustics I get black surfaces on any surface intersecting the glass...

    Here is a sphere using an IOR of 1.6, Fresnel is checked and refraction is dialed all the way up. (p.s. GI is on for both images)

    And here is the exact same scene with refractive caustics turned off in the GI panel of render globals.

    enable "affect shadows" on the material
