  • V-Ray can't be loaded until manually re-installed every time.

    Hi!

We're having trouble with a V-Ray installation that can't be loaded.
If my collegue reboots his computer, V-Ray can't be found and has to be manually installed. If we go into the Plug-in Manager, he can check "Auto load", but nothing happens if he tries to check "Loaded". It just stays unchecked. The Plug-in Information button (the i) is grey and not green.

The VrayForMaya.module file is in the Maya2013\modules folder. It just won't load it. So he has to install V-Ray every time the computer has been rebooted.

We're running floating licenses, but I don't think that should have anything to do with it.

What OS and what version of V-Ray are you running?

Windows 7 with V-Ray 2.30.01. We have identical machines and it works like a charm on mine.

We've tried re-installing both Maya and V-Ray now, but no change.

        We've turned off UAC completely.

We've tried loading the plugin manually.

The error message we recieve is:

// Error: line 1: The specified module could not be found. (vrayformaya)

Were there any errors during the vray uninstall/(re)install process? Has the same build worked without those problems before? Do you have more than one maya installed on the same machine and are there more than one windows users on it?

No errors. My collegue has mainly used C4D and is just now transitioning to Maya / V-Ray, so he has only tried Maya / V-Ray a little bit before. And when he has tried it, it has worked, but then he hadn't rebooted his computer for two or three weeks. It's when he reboots that the problem occurs.

Only one Maya installation and he is the only Windows user (his account is also the Admin).

This also affects the render slave. If he reboots and starts up the slave, we can't render on his machine, since Maya can't load V-Ray. We're using Deadline from Thinkbox Software as our manager.

              Ok, a few more questions:
              - what is the Maya version?
              - what is your vray license (dongled locally or via a network machine)

Would it be possible to send an email to our vraymaya@chaosgroup.com to discuss maybe setting a remote session so we can dig into this?

And another thing that came to mind - are there any other 3rd party plugins for maya installed that possibly overwrite some environment variables or something of the sort?

                - Maya 2013. We will try the latest service pack.
                - Network

A remote session would be a great idea I think. I'll talk to him when he gets back.

We did try out mental core earlier (before finally switching to V-Ray) and it wouldn't surprise me if it did something bad to his files =) He did however re-install Maya, but there might be files saved in the Documents folder that's still there?

                Thanks!

are you running maya 2013 or 2013.5 and vray accordingly? also edit the mod filr and make sure it points to where you need it and lastly, go to users and delete the maya 2013 user profile and see if that helps.

Would you care to elaborate on "delete the maya 2013 user profile"? Should I delete the entire maya folder in My Documents?

I think this is resolved now. We got some remote help from the Chaosgroup support. Thanks for all the tips!
