  • Does projection node support fur?

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is a bug or it's just flat out not supposed to work this way, but is VRayFur, supposed to support projection mapping?

It renders, but there is always some sort of "banding" going on.

Here's a render with the fur.

And the same shading network applied to the surface below, with no fur. It doesn't seem to be a case of tilling?

Not urgent but I haven't seen this in the forums before. Thought I should mention

      Hi,

Would it be possible to share the scene or send it over to vraymaya@chaosgroup.com ? And also what vray/maya versions do you use?

Any version of Maya and any nightly really, have noticed it for a while. But in this specific case it was a nightly build from Apr 30 and Maya 2013x64

No problem, just a heads up that it also happens on V-Ray Pattern geo (with projection node), so that might also be of help.

Sorry for the late reply. I think there is no bug there, the banding happens where the lighter parts of the texture are so maybe it's a combination of the texture itself and the scale of the 3dPlacement node. Then again, you're welcome to correct me if I'm wrong. I hope you have found a way to work around this, because for now we probably won't do any changes there, if not necessary.

                Hi Yolov,

Instead of triPlanar I'm just using planar and the results of that little change are perfect now.

There is something funny going I believe with triPlanar as some overlapping occurs, but that maybe just how it works.

I thought you had a specific reason for using triPlanar. It sort of wraps the texutre around the object, see maya help for more info. It renders the same way with most if not all renderers. I hope the planar mode does the job for you?
