Even in the image with dipersion on, we didn't find many dispersion... and the thing disturbs us a lot is there is some rays blocked and create a dark part which should not be...

we have three area light and a dome light in this scene

    Thanks

      While on the dispersion subject,
I was having a problem when the subpixel mapping option is checked, my dispersion (in a diamond) was getting green.
Unchecked the option and I was getting the right colours.
Not sure if this is a bug or intended.

      Thanks,

Actually I'm not able to reproduce this, the result that i get is identical with or without "Subpixel mapping" option set.
        Can i see your scene?
        Thank you.

          Hi,
obviously, when I look at my file, it works now.
I will see if I can get something, but even my old files that had the problem work now.

          Cheers,

            Using Max 2012 x64 with Vray 2.30.01
            or
            Max 2014 with Vray 2.40.04

I’m working on some diamond renders with dispersion and getting a similar issue to that which the Thekraken highlighted at the start of this thread.

I find that when dispersion is switched on for the diamond material, the diamond becomes darker and loses much of its sparkle.

Is there a solution to this?

It would be helpful for us if have some some of those problematic files for investigation - would it be possible to send a stripped down version of the scene ?

                  Hello GrahamMac

Thank you very much for the scene - we manage to find out what cause this issue.
It is related to the environment color/texture - it seams that when the dispersion is activated and the environment is invisible the resulting refractions are darker for some reason.
In the scene you send us the VrayDome light has VraySky textures plugged in but the Dome is invisible - if you make it visible the result is as it should be.

It looks like a bug and I am going to hand it off to our Developers Team for confirmation.
