  • Camera Issue

    Hey,

I recently switched from Vray for Maya 2.3.01 to the latest nightly build 2.25.01. I did this because I was running into pre-export hair issues that caused very long render times. Though the nightly build fixed the hair problem my renders no longer seem to match the old ones or even playblasts from the viewport. I'm using a regular maya camera in 2013. I've attached an image example.

Hm, what I should I look for in the image? I don't see any hair (although that might be the problem ) In any case, is it possible to get us the scene to vraymaya@chaosgroup.com

    Best regards,
    Vlado

You mean the camera is shifted? Do you use film translate ot similar?

        Hey Guys,

I dont use film translate or anything similiar, it does seem like the lens shifted though I cant put my finger on exactly what its doing.

Vlado - These images are clear examples of the difference between the original render image 1 and the new render from the nightly build image 2. This is exactly the same frame in maya. This is just one of the render layers from this scene. The hair lives in one of the other render layers. Before switching over to the nightly build even if the hair wasn't visible in the scene the pre-render export would ramp up to 2 to 3 hours. Turning off the dynamic runoff in batch definitely solved this issue. Unfortunately its byproduct was this. Its not just this scene either it seems to be everything I render.

          Hi,

I can't seem to get that difference with the nightlies and the stable builds, even with older stable builds - they all render the same. So I'd like to ask for more info on this:
          - Are you using DR, and if yes - any backburner/deadline or other job managers?
          - What is the frame number for the above attached image?

If you can think of anything else that could help us reproduce this, please let us know.

              Hey Guys,

Thanks for looking into this for us. Sorry for the late reply but I wanted to confirm my results before I closed the matter. It seems that we installed the 2.1.01 stable build on the farm. Everyone was still working in 2.3.01 on there desktops and submitting to deadline with it. Not sure if this specifically caused the issues or where the errors in the camera were generated but the problem seemed to fix itself when we installed the latest nightly build instead(2.25.01 from the other night). This has been confirmed in multiple scenes and renders. The lagging pre-export hair render issues also seem to be fixed now also. In crunch mode now but when I have down time I'll see if I cant track it down better. Thanks again.
