  • ABC files with vrmesh - wrong translation?

    Hi there,

I have imported a vrmesh that came from 3DS Max into Maya. The transforms are obviously wrong (z up instead of y zup).

So I correct this and freeze transforms. It all works, but what seems to break is if I then export a GPU cache of the proxy and apply the abc file back into the viewport slot, it goes back to z up and seems to ignore freeze transforms.

If I nativley import an ABC into Maya, the transforms are correct. So I have narrowed it down to the vrmesh node.

    How do you do that?

    Best regards,

      Hi Vlado.

If I turn on Show Whole Mesh, Maya is able to export that mesh to an ABC file. (Using Pipeline Cache > GPU Cache > Export Selection...). I then want that ABC file to represent the vrmesh.

The reason why I'm doing this is in the first place is that I have no control over the amount of preview faces when importing a vrmesh file from 3DS Max. The default for these particular files are too low.

A little off topic, but I absolutely LOVE the little Alembic Proxy parameter than can real time adjust the number of preview faces, I suppose that is not possible for native vrmesh files?

Yes, it is not possible because the preview mesh is generated during file creation and it is there to improve the performance.
We can generate preview meshes on the fly, but it will require the whole file to be read from the disk/network (as is probably happening with the alembic files).
