  • Environment and alpha

    Hi,

is there a way to remove the alpha from the background environment?
Currently if you have some geometry and use the sun/sky, the sky has 0 in alpha making it invisible when open in Photoshop for instance.

I found 2 ways to avoid that but they are a bit of a hack (add an image plane or add a sphere around my geometry and use the wrapper material to make the alpha at 1).

So is there an option to tick somewhere in Maya to force the alpha to be at 1 (white) for the environment?

    Cheers,

    Yannick

    Hi,
Because your sky in 360° and you want alpha with the sky, your alpha will be white on all your image (because sky is 360°).
So, in Photoshop (or other), when you open your image, why you do not ignore alpha ?

well depending on file format, the alpha is embedded like in png for example, and I am not sure that the sky information is actually in the file.

I am just trying to find an easy way or maybe this need to be added.

      Cheers,

In my memory, they is an option in render global like "render separate alpha".
        Perhaps you can try this.

I tried that and "dont save alpha channel" but both didn't work here.

And if you use the "background" render element, and add it on Photoshop ?

You have an "affect background" checkbox in the color mapping settings.

This gives me a different result.
It is ok, i was mainly looking to see if I haven't missed an option somewhere.

                  Thanks
