  • Deep EXR output Problem

    Hi!

I using Maya 2014 with a nighty build vray_adv_22501_maya2014_x64_22988. (Still I just received a 23406, but had not time to check it)
While rendering via RenderPal I sometimes get this error message in the outlog:
    Code:
    [2013/Aug/3|10:12:24] V-Ray error: [ShmapReader::open] Missing tags: header (1), channel info (1), tile data (1), tile map (0)
    [2013/Aug/3|10:12:24] V-Ray: Successfully written image file "D:/SHOTS/out_render/001/dlid25_001.0031.exr"
Problem is that the file is not written.
This occurs totally random on different frames and different render slaves.

RenderPal does not flag an error or anything.

As written in the Title the output is an EXR deep with 16 bit, Auto Data Window active and Scanline ZIP compression.
The VRST options are set to ZIP and 16bit.

    Thanks for any quick response.

    Hm,

Can you reproduce this problem with a simple scene?
Also can you try the latest build 23406, because we've fixed some issues, that might be related to your problem?

      Hi!

Yea, as written above I just received the latest a few hours ago.
I'm just about to test it.
The change log for the 2.25.01 is rather long.
The entry " [bug] EXR (Deep) file output doesn't work - resolved." which sounds promising I found in the change log is listed only for 3.0 beta.

I'll give it a try now and will post my result here.

      Thanks.

        Still the same problem.
In a second test I also deactivated the "Auto Data Window" option as it is not working with the Deep EXRs anyway, but that does not help either.

        Any other suggestions?

Are there any other warnings or errors in the V-Ray output?

          Best regards,

Well, I have this other thing...
            Code:
Error: line 1: RuntimeError: file <maya console> line 1: Plug-in, "maxwell", was not found on MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH.
I had this with other renderings as well and no problem. But then I just saved PNGs.

I don't use Maxwell and there should not be anything from Maxwell in my Maya scene ... still I get this message. Don't know why.
There is no other Error or Warning from Vray.

Ok then; one more question: are you saving locally or to a mapped drive?

              Best regards,
              Vlado

                On a mapped network drive.

                Thanks for looking into this.

                  Hello,

Deep .exr files are created by first writing a temporary .vrst file and then converting .vrst to .exr.

This error message means that the .vrst file was not correctly generated:
                  Code:
V-Ray error: [ShmapReader::open] Missing tags: header (1), channel info (1), tile data (1), tile map (0)
Unfortunately the .vrst file is deleted after conversion.

Starting with build 23420 VRay will not delete the temporary .vrst file if a conversion error has occurred, so for all problematic frames a .vrst file should remain after rendering.
Can you reproduce the problem using vray_adv_22501_maya2014_x64_23420 and send us a leftover .vrst files for investigation?

                    Hi Vasil!

                    Thank you for your post.
I already guessed something like this in the previous nightly 22988 I already had the problem that some .vrst have been left over even the EXR has been created.

I checked the new 23420 and the problem did not occur again in my tests, but the funny thing is that with the same test and again using the 23406 I can't reproduce the problem.

So I'm not hundred percent sure what fixed the issue now.

I will continue to use the 23420 so that a .vrst will be left over in case again an EXR is not written with this Error message.

                    Best,
                    Jan.

                      Happen again!

                      Hi!

                      I had the problem again!!!

Using nightly vray_adv_22501_maya2014_x64_23449 and got the same error message again.

But this time I have an VRST left from it ....

                      Thanks for any help!

                      Best,

                        Hi,

                        Thanks for your feedback!

I found a bug in the VRST files creation, that may corrupt output file just like the attached one. The bug is fixed in build 23569.
The problem with missing .exr files should not happen with the latest nightly builds.

                        Regards,
                        Vasil
