  • Could not obtain a license (1001)

Often during rendering clients spit out this error message.

Could not obtain a license (1001).

What does this error code mean? Is it some timeout? Maybe the clients are asking to fast for a license?

    Thanks

It means that there is some communication error between V-Ray and the license server, whether due to slow network or otherwise. What is the machine that runs the license server (Windows/Linux/Mac OS)? Also, which V-Ray version?

If I remember correctly it was some Windows server OS. Not the most recent one.

We are using a pretty recent nightly, but had the problem with older versions too. Maybe some time out value is too low?

There is the "VRAY_CONNECT_TIMEOUT" environment variable; it will tell V-Ray how long to wait before giving up a connection to the license server. The default value is 50000 ms (50 seconds), but you can increase that and see if it helps. This variable should be set on the machine where V-Ray is running.

          We will try it.

But the value already appears pretty large to me. Should be enough for all clients to get their license. Even with network hickups.

Did you change the default value in VRay 3 ?

I have seen VRay fail this morning, after only waiting 20 secondes :

I don't think we've changed anything there, but let me double-check.
