I need to apply the renderable parameter to a bunch of separate curves but I am wondering if it's easier than scripting it to go through and assign them on a per-curve basis. Is there a quick way to do this to a group of curves?

Splines? If they're all going to have the same thickness, you can select all the splines and drop a 'Renderable Spline' modifier on them all together and adjust the settings from there.Brendan Coyle | www.brendancoyle.com
