  • Multiple Materials on the Same Mesh Object

I am able to assign more than one Vray material to the same object by selecting faces and assigning the materials to faces (there are different UV sets in the same object). I can't find a way to get this method to work with a displacement map however. Is there a way to do this in maya?

There must be a way to assign a displacement map to a specific UV set but it doesn't show up in the relationship editors.

I think its a maya limitation, or something isnt showing right. In any case, you can temporarily connect your displacement map to any color slot of your assigned shader, it will then show up in the relationship editor, you can then assign it to a uv set and disconnect it from the color of the shader, it will still be affective for the displacement.

As I suspected it was a UV set issue, your workaround worked perfectly Dmitry, thanks!

Yeah I'd need to investigate further, if it happens in native maya materials, then its a maya bug.

Umh U hock up displacement node to ur object. Then in material u hock up the displacement texture to ur shading group displacement slot. Then u should be able to have different displacements and so on on 1 object. World of advice, maya is absolutely worthless when it comes to 1 mesh + multiple materials. It will break and you will have to redo a lot of work again from scratch. I advice either use blend material with masks or separate object...

wowsers, I'm noticing other strange things, For Fast SSS the texture slots for glossiness and reflection color don't show up in the relationship editor either. So I'll have to apply the workaround there as well since only the four color slots appear for the SSS in the relationship editor.
