  • installing v-ray for maya from a zip file

    Hi,

we are about to transition from installing vray with the installer to installing it from the zip file.

so everyhing works fine except for vray rt. it just won't do anything. on hitting the ipr button the vfb pops open and there is the additional vray.exe window popping up, but it just won't render anything.

i am doing this with the official 2.4. ialso tried it with the installer (before) and everything seemed to work just fine. am i missing something.

    cheers,

    Ronny

Check the output of vray.exe. You should be able to see something like: "Loading plugins from". Are the plugins properly loaded? It would be helpful if you attach here the whole output.

If the plugins have failed to load, you'll have to edit the path where vray.exe searches for them.
The path is stored in vrayconfig.xml or by the env variable VRAY_PLUGINS_x64.
The automatic installer takes care to modify vrayconfig.xml to match your setup, but for the zip installs you have to do it yourself.

ah, setting VRAY_PLUGINS_x64 solved it. Thought i had it covered with VRAY_FOR_MAYAnnnn_PLUGINS_x64 as it points to the same path.

btw. there seems to be a little mistake in the documentation where it says:

        8. Add to the XBMLANGPATH variable the folder
        vray_builds\my_version\maya_vray\icons\%B
(the %B is necessary - Maya will replace it with actual bitmap name)

Maybe I missunderstood something, but writing the path with %B in the end does not work (at least not with maya 2014), leaving it away works just fine.

        Thanks for the help!

This changed in one of the Maya releases, maybe 2012 not sure.
