  • Object Properties Problem

    Hello,

I found a bug concerning the object properties.
Via drag and drop in the outliner I´m able to assign one object to multiple property nodes, which shouldn´t be possible and wasn´t possible in the past.
    -> Scene file attached

    thanks in advance

I'd actually like the possibility to include one object in different sets
This could come in pretty handy in some cases. But it could lead to some confusion, of course.

Well the problem is which property would be prioritised when the object is added to multiple sets if e.g primary visibility is switched off in one property...
I tested this with the scene attached, but couldn´t find a pattern which one is prioritised.

Yep, that's the problem and in those situations it won't work. (Maybe CG could implement a priority attribute, so we could just choose? Dunno if this could work.)

It's a good thing, when it comes to setting up renderlayers. There you can just override the "Disabled" flag on one set and enable another one. It's pretty handy when you need to rerender parts of your scene.

But yes, more then one VOP per object on a single layer is crap right now.

The right behaviour is to not allow multiple connections to different object sets. However there is a bug in Maya 2013 and this behaviour is disabled for this version only. I think making the system even more complicated (with multiple object property sets per node) is a bad idea...

Yeah, maybe. It just saved me a lot of setup work in a recent project - but maybe just leave it, as it is.

It is why i have created DeeX VRay Arsenal : D
With the tool you set objects by attributes of object properties, and it is very easy to manage.

So, i think (for VRay 3.0) you can do the same method :
              - one "set node" with primary visibility (and object properties where we have just 1 attribute : visibility)
              - one "set node" with an another property
              -.....

You can add objects on multiple sets, and the set will override (like the object properties).
