  • Z-Depth Render Element Problems

    Hello,

    we upgraded to Maya2014 with vray build: vray_adv_24501_maya2014_x64_23873

    I encountered a problem with the zdepth render element, which doesn´t work like it did before.
    See attached pictures for details.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

    Could you share that you used? Could you expand a bit on what do you expect as correct here for your settings in each zdepth channel?

      I´ll try to explain what I would expect from the zdepth channel in the images I posted before.
      The scene just consists of some cubes WITHOUT any background object, image or something else
      For the render element I used the mentioned values for the Depth.
      Depth Clamp is ON and Filtering OFF

      1st image: Depth Black 00 || Depth White 30
      The Background should be white

      2nd image: Depth Black 10 || Depth White 30
      Looks OK

      3rd image: Depth Black 30 || Depth White 00
      Background should be black

      4th image: Depth Black 30 || Depth White 10
      Background should be black

      5th image explains what it should look like with Depth Black 30 || Depth White 00

      When using 0 neither for black or white something gets flipped internally I guess?
      I hope you understand what I mean.

      Masking the zdepth pass via the alpha from the Beauty in Compositing won´t work due to the fact that we don´t want to have anti-aliaising on the edges of the clipped objects.

        Yes, thank you for the explanation. I thought that might be it, but I wanted to make sure. Seems like a bug. I'll try and get back to you with more info on when we can have this fixed.
