  • Matte shadow pass messes up when image plane is turned on

Sorry, I messed up the title. I meant that the matte shadow pass messes up when the image plane is turned OFF

So, I have a very simple scene. One object. Ground plane. One rectangle light. One dome light. Image plane attached to the camera.
When I look at the matte shadow pass it is all messed up (all noisy with random buckets completely ruined). However, when I turn ON the image plane is renders correctly. Is this expected behavior? Seems like a glitch to me.

Here is an example of a matte shadow pass with the image plane OFF

What V-Ray and Maya versions are you running?
Also what do you use to turn off the image plane? Display mode = none?

      I'm on Maya 2014.
      V-Ray for Maya version 2.45.01, revision 23843

Yup. I turned on and off the image plane by going to "Display Mode = none"

I had no luck reproducing this, surely I'm missing something. Is it possible to share your scene or part of it?

On a side note, were you using DR when you got that weird result?

I can share the scene. Can I email it? It's too big to post.
I wasn't using DR at the time. It does the same thing though with a local render or a DR render.

You can send a download link or the scene (to your preference) to vraymaya@chaosgroup.com . Just include this thread's title in the subject and we'll take a look at it.
