  • Distributed rendering GI big bug

    Hi everybody!

I've encounter an annoying problem when DR is on, see attachment please.
This image is only lighted with a VRay Sun + VRay Sky to make it clearly visible. But it can also be reproduce with a HDRI plugged in a VRayDome but it's more subtle...

Name:	Vray_DR_Bug.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	462.2 KB

    Workstation : Windows 7 Pro x64, Maya 2014, VRay 2.4, plug-ins: only VRayScatter v4.0.3
    4 x RenderSlaves : Windows 7 Pro x64, VRay 2.4 Standalone, plug-ins: only VRayScatter v4.0.3

I have just formatted all my RenderSlaves in order to solve this problem but it still here. Before the formating, Maya 2014 was installed on them with VRay 2.4 for Maya.

Sometime it happens, sometime everything is fine even if I relaunch or not the VRay Spawner on each slave or completely restart them...
It's really happening randomly and I have to wait untill the rendering of the image (because during the calculation of the IR, everything seems fine).

Could it be related to the resolution of the rendering size (7000px wide)?
I also tried to reset the IR map already stored, sometimes it's working, sometimes not.

If you have an idea about what produce this bug it would be great!
    Regards.

    UPDATE :

I think it's the same bug as him : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...ht=distributed

I didn't mention that on local render everything is always fine.

The issue in the other thread is that the environment map was not available on the other machines. You can disable it to do a very quick test if this is the same issue. With VRay 2.4 the only way is to make sure all maps are available and the same. The nightlies are able to transfer assets and abort if something is missing.

      Thanks Ivaylo for your answer,

I am aware about the steps to follow that solved this previous topic and I did it but the problem is still here...
And as I mentioned I'm only using a Vray Sun + Vray Sky so I don't know how my Render Slaves could not be able to reach it throught my network...

I'm on Vray for Maya v 2.40.1 but just can't find the nightlies version you talk about.
Where can I find them please?

      Regards.

Have you pre calculated the light maps and saved to file? and then render with "from file".?

You can send a request to our sales department: sales.software@chaosgroup.com for nightly builds access.

Regarding the issue with the different bucket brightness you have encountered, please provide more details about the workflow that you are using. It looks like a GI issue.
As Stezza mentioned above, do you use precalculated GI maps?
Does it render correct with DR when GI is disabled?

You could check the GI render element if its added to the scene.

Also could be a gamma display issue. I'm not sure if maya has gamma or LUT correction, but it looks like some of the machines might be displaying 2.2 gamma. Just food for thought.

I know this doesn't apply to your scene, it's really aimed at anyone else who stumbles here with the dreaded squares-on-the-render problem...but one thing i discovered was not having my ies light profiles in the source images folder meant that the assets were not transferred. I thought they were being picked up by the other machines but they weren't, which caused different coloured DR buckets.

                Hi guys,

And sorry for my reallyyyy late answer!
But as Stezza and Tashko suggest me, it solves the problem when baking the IR and Light cache maps!

I've encountered this problem only when rendering big still images (from 5k to 7k pixels wide).

                That's just great now.
                Regards.

Can you provide a scene which can be used to reproduce the problem?

                    Hi Petrov,

For the moment I just can't send you the file because it is for an architectural contest ; so it has to be confidential.

                    Scene size:
                    MA scene file : 330Mo
                    Proxies : 1,14Go
                    Sourceimages : 3Go

I will let you know, when it will be public.

                    Regards.
