  • DR Render is returning black Boxes

    Hello All.

I have a problem with distributed rendering. When using distributed rendering, my image is getting black buckets all over the image after it completes. Everything looks good with the render is cutting thru the image, but when the last bucket finishes, the image returns a checker like pattern all over the final rendered image. What could this be?

I am rendering on Macs with Maya 2014, 2 of them. My machine and a slave machine. I am running the latest nightly with the "transfer missing assets" checked.

I am using brute force GI, but when it is turned off, I still get the same problem.

Any help on this one would be much appreciated.

    Thanks much.

Think that I solved it. Just made a new scene, then dropped the old scene into it, hit render, and it worked this time. Weird. But, I got something on the screen.

      Hi,

It's very odd. Would it be possible to share an example image? We can make a test, if you supply a scene file.

Here is a screengrab of the image. Yes it was a weird issue. I feel like it has to do with the fact that I was referencing the object. I did merge the reference into the render file, but for some reason it was treating it like it was still a reference.

As for sharing the file with you guys, I could do that, but it would have to be securely done as the material is product sensitive.

Are you able to reproduce it on another scene or it is bound only to that one?
Have you got the same issue with another Vray build?

This did happen to me on a previous scene on a older build. I was rendering from my machine using Maya 2013 and Vray 2.3, but it was using references as well. So I am guessing that it is holding onto that referenced data for some reason. I thought that it wasn't seeing the textures originally, but I made a test scene, and did a test with the textures that were missing from the previous scene( on some generic objects) and they render fine. That is what made me make a new scene and just import what I wanted to render.

I hope that answers some questions that you have.

Hello. So it popped up again, on a file that was working yesterday. I am not sure what the problem is now. I thought I had resolved it.

                ???

Ok, would you please pack up the entire scene including all external assets like textures and etc and send it for investigation to support@chaosgroup.com
FTP could be provided if needed - just let us know on the same email address.

                    Hi,

I encounter the same problem as you, usually when rendering big still images (from 5k or 7k pixels).
I manage to solve the problem with baking the light cache and IR maps.

Then all you have to do after baking them, is to set you Light cache and IR to "from file".

                    Let me know.
                    Regards.

                      Thanks for your reply Phantom.

I would have done that, bake out my maps, but I was using brute force. Also after some testing, my particular problem had to do with some issues on the Chaos group side. They posted a fix for this in one of the nightlies a while back.

                      Cheers
