  • Missing caustics

Hello, (did send this also to support but if they are busy, maybe someone else could help?)

I try to render caustics with refractive and reflective object. I can see caustics photon count after the rendering but in the rendering theres no caustics, even in caustics render element.
Is this a bug or am I missing something(In my experience with MAX nothing special should done to get caustics visible)?

    I using Vray nightly 24501 and Maya 2013 SP2.

make sure ur min and max distance is specified. Also u can put multiplier to 99999 to troubleshoot it further.

      hello,
i'm also trying to get the caustics to work (vray 3.0, maya 2015).

i have to decrease the multiplier value either in the render settings or within the light to ridiculous high values.
with physical sun&sky / physical camera i have to crank up the numbers even more.

i know those kind of odd numbers / compared to defaults from the old mental ray days (there was a cm2 factor for conversion between standard maya and mr physical sun ...)

      am i doing something wrong?!

well - it definitely has something to do with physical camera and light decay . .. but i don't get the logic behind

          Thanks mate, this helps!
I just have to lift up search distance and multiplier and there they are. Now the tweaking starts to get a proper looking caustics

Also use the min distance. It helps optimize it further...

is there a specific number instead of 99999
something like (inverse) square root of distance?!

we use a factor of 27 for our hdr-images when rendering with physical camera . ..

Its just a multiplier. It multiplies ur light and other sources caustics thini...

well - i know about the multiplier, but do we really have to eyeball the values?!

I think it should work just fine with default multiplier values...
