  • Refraction Problem

    Hi all,

I'm working on a some studio shots of tequila bottles and I keep getting these weird reflections/refractions with black lines in them around the neck.

I've tried just about every setting I could think to no avail. I also tried altering the environment and eliminating lights one by one and it had no effect.

Geometry is polygons. I tried both smoothed and unsmoothed and the image looks identical.

Reducing the IOR diminishes the effect which is why I set it to 1.23 instead of 1.33 (~tequila).

I rendered out just the inner liquid portion so it's clear what is going on.

I would really appreciate any advice as to what I should try. If you need more info about my setup please ask.

Try to add "Closed Volume" extra attribute from the VRayMtl.

Thanks. I just tried that and I'm afraid it had no effect.

The only way to diminish the anomaly is to lower the IOR of the liquid further. I have it down to 1.13 and with the glass of the bottle around the liquid it makes the effect almost disappear.

Would it be possible to send us the scene for investigation then?
Thank you very much in advance.

Absolutely. To whom should I send it?

if the Closed Volume option can't fix it, it may be just the way the refraction works, but we will see this from the scene. The issue that this option fixes is related to z-fighting on thin surfaces where the rays can "leak" and shade wrongly with fog.

You will get them in real life too.

                Best regards,
