  • Vector Displacement Mudbox Ptex

I'm using Mudbox to create Ptex Vector Displacements Maps, and I can't get vray subdividing to reach the level of detail. However, If I switch to Texture mapping (in place of ptex), so new UvMap, new low poly with uvs to get it displacing, in place of ptex, and it works perfectly!.

There is any difference in the workflow to have Vector Displacement Ptex working? (Compared with Uv texture way?)

I'm using last stable version of Vray 2.0

Hm, can you show me some images?

    Best regards,

Hi Vlado, originally I was working with a hand model, but when problems start to grow, usually is better to simplify and I've been testing with classic mushroom model.

The thing is, in the Mudbox documentation, here:

      http://docs.autodesk.com/MUD/2015/EN...on_options.htm

you can read (in a NOTE):

"You can extract a vector displacement map from a model with no UVs using Ptex (set Map Type to Ptex in the Output Options). However, maps with Relative Tangent or Absolute Tangent space can only be applied to models with UVs."

So if that's in this way, this means is impossible to use absolute vector displacements with Ptex?, So, there is no "Displacement + Base mesh deformation" option to animate our displaced meshes when we use Ptex?

The thing is, if I create the Ptex map in object space in Mudbox (I can see there is a new "object space" option in the displacement options of the last nightly of version 2.0, yes, I've been disconnected for a while), there is neither good result using that. Anyway, after read that note on Mudbox documentation, this appears to change the whole game, and if that's true, I guess I'm gonna need to change my strategy.

Right now I'm using Mudbox demo (you know the "problems" with Zbrush), but I have enough demo days to provide you with some models to test anything.

Ignore the Mudbox docs; see here for more info (it's for 3ds Max, but it's the same for Maya):

Thank you for point me in the right way one more time. I was missing "include mesh data".

I must take a look at the new docs, I need to renew myself.
