  • Refraction and opacity map

    Hi,

I have noticed that if I map an image or change the colour to something not white, in the Opacity Map option of my Vray material, the refraction IOR gets ignored.
is this a bug or intended?
I am trying to have a transparent object with an IOR, to disappear gradually (driven by an animated map).

    I am using:
    [2014/Sep/15|10:08:26] V-Ray: V-Ray for Maya version 2.40.02 from May 14 2014, 16:40:13
    [2014/Sep/15|10:08:26] V-Ray: V-Ray core version is 2.00.02

    Thanks,

    Yannick

This is on purpose, you can't have both transparency and refraction. The correct way to do what you want is through compositing. Doing it in the render is quite a bit slower. However if you must do it, you can use a VRayBlendMtl material where the base material is empty, and the first coat is the refractive material. Then you can use the blend amount of the coat to blend between transparency and refraction.

    Best regards,

I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

      Thanks Vlado,

I use the VRayBlendMtl trick and it works fine.
