Hi,
I submitted an issue back in the day (support number #840826)... which involved not being able to animate the sun/sky on/off between frames. This seems to still be applicable even in V-Ray 3.
and I received the following response:
I'm now following up on this issue, as it popped up again when trying to set up a complex automated/scripted workflow for a rather large number of scenes ... which is that we were again trying to keyframe the vraySettings.cam_overrideEnvText value on/off between frames. We've also noticed there are a great number of values (such as intensity) on the sun that you cannot animate between frames and then render that using mayabatch/commandline.
However, when trying to simply animate the sun/sky on/off entirely there is a much better workaround than to divide the scenes up in two or more parts... and that is to put a MultipleDivide node inbetween the connections of the sky node and the Background Texture / GI Texture / Reflection Texture / Refraction Texture (all in the Environment foldout in render globals) and animate the MultipleDivide node instead of the actual value in the sun or sky node.
But (!) this does not solve the underlying problem where it seems you cannot animate individual values of e.g. the sun node and then commandline render that. We need to do these things from time to time on large catalogue image projects, where the same product needs to be rendered in multiple studios/lighting. We evaluate the smartest setup and we fall into this pit over and over again. Now, at least, we have a really good workaround, but I think it's just a matter of time before we need to start tweaking individual values too.
Therefore I would like to revive this old bug and see if it could get fixed, perhaps in time for V-Ray 3?
PS/EDIT: After some testing, it seems it's only the Intensity Multiplier of the sun that is cannot be animated in this manner... so the other values seems to work fine.

We have an issue with a certain scene where connections have been made to turn the V-Ray sky on/off as well as enable/disable V-Ray environment overrides on a per-frame basis. However, it seems that this does not work as expected when rendering in commandline/batch mode. See image below. I have attached the sample scene.
We used the latest nightly (build 23606) with Maya 2012 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit.
*Detailed description:*
Using the connection editor, a connection was made between the visibility of the V-Ray sky to the Environment Overrides (cam_overrideEnvtex). Then the visibility of the sky was animated per frame.

We would like to inform you that this issue is added to our bug tracking system.
As soon as we have it fixed we will let you know.
About the workaround, unfortunately the only solution that we could suggest is to divide the animation on 2 or more parts and render them separately.
We are sorry for any inconvenience.
