If Z is up in the Maya settings, the sun/sky system doesn't work properly and gives your renders the blues. Well, it's kind of understandable... but I figured I'd just post it here. It's not really a problem. More of an FYI.
There is a similar option in the Render settings of V-Ray (VRay->Misc->Up vector), which is set to always Y-up.
Probably you need to set it to follow maya's settings or to the desired value manually.
If you wonder why there is a separate V-Ray option: this is because it turned out that some people work with the Maya up axis being Y, but their scene was rotated to have the Z axis as being up... go figure...
