  • V-Ray 3, Deadline 6.2. Maya 2015.5 Multiple Render Issues

    Hi All,

having a few very frustrating issues that have cost me weeks in lost time. If anyone has any ideas, i would be extremely grateful.

Issue 1. Frame Render completes, Logs the completed frame as successfully written, yet frame is missing.

    Issue 2. V-Ray intermittently fails to load source images with the following example of the error logged in deadline;

    0: STDOUT: [2014/Nov/12|11:55:14] [B]V-Ray warning: Bitmap file "/Volumes/RAID_MediaNew/Car_BG_Project3/Car_BG_Project3_Maya//sourceimages/Location_1_Williamstown2_31_10_14/Location_1_Williamstown2_31_10_14_Selects2_West_Ga te_FWY_JPEG/Location_1_Williamstown2_31_10_14_Selects2_West_Ga te_FWY 0070.jpg" failed to load:

Regarding issue 2, you will notice the bolded double slash in the file path, this only appears when the file load fails. The particular file in this log entry is used in every frame, and the successful frames have the normal path (one slash).

Rendering is done on both PCs and Macs using path substitutions in Deadline.

    Thanks in advance
    Potsie.

Are you rendering through V-Ray Standalone or through Maya? Also, is this on Mac OS? If yes, which particular version?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

We are submitting renders through Deadline ( 6.2) FROM maya ( 2015 Sp2)
      On Mac OS 10.8.4.
Thanks for a speedy reply Vlado

Can you reproduce these two problems with simple scenes?

          Hi folks,

I would like to catch up here and report the same problem like potsie mentioned in his issue no 2.

Intermittently Vray does not load VrayDomeLight textures (in this case *.hdr). There comes the warning: blabla.hdr... failed to load.

We are rendering over the farm in that case. If you resubmit the file whithout any changes the render comes out perfectly.

Is there a bug known? Or am I doing something wrong?

          Thanks in advance

          Dominik

Are you rendering on Windows or Linux? Is the .hdr on a network path (again, Windows or Linux file server)? Can you paste the exact error message?

            Best regards,
            Vlado

We are rendering on Win7 via Network. Every other texture is loaded correct. And as said, after resubmitting the job everything is fine.
I also noticed in animations, say 100 frames, it could happen, that one or two frames are without the dome texture.

              Here is the message:
R217| [2015/May/4|13:39:55] V-Ray warning: Bitmap file "U:/_Library/HDRi/HDRis/HDR/Desert-09_XXL_07_royal.hdr" failed to load

I will need to work on a more meaningful error message that also shows the error code; let me see if I can get this in for the builds tomorrow. Right now it's hard to say what happened.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

                      Hi Vlado,

is the error message update implemented in the nightlies yet? I was unsure.

                      Thanks

Yes, it should be there - at least it should give me a rough idea of what's going on.

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

                          Hey Vlado,

I can test from today on, so sorry for the delay. I get back to you next week with the error logs.

                          Thanks

                            Hi Vlado,

I made some tests and it seems, I now now what caused the issue:

The were special characters in the filenames, in the above case a - (minus).
Seems that in one case it could load, in another not...

I renamed the files and for now it works.

I know Maya hates special characters and in the first review I didn't look after that

                            Hopefully thats done for now

                            Cheers

                            Dominik
