  • DR Bucket Discoloration

    Hello,

I'm fairly new to VRay and am facing an issue with an animation I'm trying to render. I have a few frames where some buckets are discolored with my GI pass. I'm using DR with Transfer Missing Assets on.

After viewing my other layers, it appears to be just my GI pass that's causing issues. Diffuse is all good and textures are clean there, but not quite sure why GI is failing. Here's some info below:

I'm using VRay 3.001. GI with Irradiance Map and Light cache calculating every-frame as there is character animation. Static cameras.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. I'm attempting a render with a DR Bucket pass to see if I can isolate a machine. Other insight would definitely help as I'm still learning a lot.

    Thanks,
    Michael Chee-you

Please double check that all machines have the same V-Ray version installed.
How many machines participate in the rendering? Can you send us the log file from the workstation and slave machine after the scene being rendered.
Do you use any GI caches from HDD or both IM and LC are calculated per each frame?
Have you got the same issue with Brute Force only?

From what I can see the issue appears only on characters face/eyes - is that true?
What is the material used for the face and the eye - SSS perhaps?

      Hi Svetlozar,

Thanks for responding. I ended up disabling light-cache as my secondary bounce with just IR as the primary and this seemed to fix the issue temporarily. Unfortunately with my deadline I was unable to further diagnose and go through the investigating, but maybe after this week I'll be able to.

From what I was able to gather, it was not just on my SSS skin. It occurred on a wide variety of materials at seemingly random intervals. This wouldn't occur on every frame either, but maybe 10-15 out of a 200 frame render.

As another note of problem, I'm having a major issue with V-Ray crashing on my slaves. Constantly the slaves freeze once they start calculating IR pass (not using any cached files either, just generating on a new frame). Is there a way to provide you with a more detailed log so we can diagnose this problem? I'm not quite sure where they are located, but the initial logs I found in %temp% didn't provide much info.

When I was searching the forums I discovered a similar issue on the Modo side over here: http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...ight=crash+log

I'll try my best to provide you with some more info. This recent slave crashing is really frequent and I noticed this morning most of my slaves failing in the same fashion.

Some additional info: My workstation is Maya 2015 and Vray 3.00.01 on a Mac Pro. My render computers are a mix of i7-5960x and i7-4770k on Windows, all running 3.00.01 as well. Total of 10 computers. If you could point me to the specific log locations on Mac for the workstation and logs on the slaves for Windows I would be super thankful. Still new to V-Ray and was having trouble searching up the precise location for those.

I was having exactly the same problem a while back, but found the fault to be a rogue slave version on one of the machines.

Vlado: It's not the first time that happened, and can be very costly timewise. Perhaps we could have a checkbox in the DR section of renderglobals that only uses slaves which are on the same vray number ? (defaulted to on)
