  • Animation Irradiance Maps won't load...

    Hi,

Followed the animation for V-Ray (http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...ing+Objects+II) info and did my prepassfor light cache & irradiance maps. But when I go to render the second pass for final results it won't load the maps.

Not sure why. I've tried renaming but that doesn't seem to be the issue. This is what shows in the source editor:

// Warning: Error loading irradiance map: Error opening file. //
// Warning: Error loading irradiance map: Error opening file. //
// Warning: Error loading irradiance map: Error opening file. //
// Error: Could not load irradiance map. //
// Error: This irradiance map cannot be used in animation mode //

I don't understand why it says it can't be used in animation mode since the doc explains to put it in animation mode.

Any idea on what I'm missing?

(Posted this in V-Ray RT by accident. Sorry for the duplicate thread)

Would you please first test the same approach on a simple scene and let us know whether it works or not.

Furthermore, did you use Animation(prepass) mode when calculating IM in the first pass?

      Hello,

Are you sure you are loading the correct irradiance map file - it should look like this "test0001.vrmap" (when it's loaded it will appear without the numbers like this "test.vrmap"). The message you are getting is usually due to loading irradiance map that was rendered as a single frame and not with the Animation prepass mode.

      Thank you,

        Hi Svetlozar,

I did use that exact approach on a simple scene (ball bounce) and it seemed to work just fine.

I used the Animation (pre pass) mode on both.

Would the numbering of my shots matter at all? I thought i read somewhere that the 000.vrmap file was important. My ball test was a starting frame of 000 while my actual scene I need this to work for has a starting frame number of something along the lines of 1450009...

As far as I know I'm following the instructions properly but I do know it doesn't "prompt" me to save/pick location for the irradiance map when I pick the prep pass mode like it says it should in the instructions.

Hopefully you guys can help cause I'm lost at the moment.

I was definitely in pre pass mode but like I just said to Svetlozar, maybe my frame numbering is the issue?

Did a quick test this morning moving the animation to frame 1 and attempting the process again. Seemed to work. I'm going to try it on a few other scenes and see if that was maybe the hold up.

            Stay tuned.

What is the animation-range of your scene and what are the names of the saved IM files?
Would it be possible to simplify the scene and send it to us for investigation?
