I'm using vray 2.45 at work to render out a
.vrst file with deep information and need to find a way to bring it
into nuke. The two pages I found suggest that I can get it directly from chaosgroup. Can you guys forward this to me?

Those builds should support deep OpenEXR files, I think - there should be no need to go with .vrst files. There are ways to work with those indeed, but it would be best to avoid them if possible.

Sorry, I meant vray for maya 2.4. Are you sure it supports deep exr images? I don't see the option in the drop down

Deep EXR format is not supported in the latest official 2.40.02 but it is supported in the latest Nightly Builds of 2.x.
If you have access to the Nightlies please download and install the latest one, if you haven't contact us a support@chaosgroup.com and include a link to this thread.

          In the example here: http://therenderblog.com/deep-compositing-with-vray/
Does anyone know how to create the "Weight" channel?

I think we only generate it in 3ds Max. I have to look at that page to see if it makes sense to support it in Maya. Maybe the coverage channel would work just as well?

              Thanks Vlado,
Is the weight channel technically exactly the same as coverage then?

In the absence of transparent objects, yes. Otherwise, the weight is the coverage multiplied by the transparencies of all objects in front of the particular fragment.
