  • vray2sided material no pass

    Hello

I am just working on this architecture scene and spliting it up into render elements(passes) and putting it back together,
I miss some of the direct light on the curtain.

The shader on this object is a vray2sided material with two time the same vrayMat on both sides with half opacity.
None of the render elements(passes) stores the info of the direct light / translucency.
I also tried some other render elements that I usually don't use.
Is the 2sided shader not fully supported by render elements, or do I just miss what element I have to use?
    Thnx in advance
    Martin

Can you show us a screen-shot of the 2SidedMtl properties?
The information from 2SidedMtl usually goes into VrayLighting Render Element - have you got that element into the composition?
Let us also know the exact V-Ray/3DSMax version, Compositing Software, and the file format and bit depth of the files exported from V-Ray.

Looks like I am having the same issue, just a standard 2 sided shader with 2 vray mtls to replicate a paper shader. The translucency effect doesn't appear to be in any of the passes.

Yes, we need to add a render element with the backside component.

You could always subtract your comped passes from the original RGB render and add that back on top. If the only difference is the vray2sided material you will have effectively generated it as an element.

            Hello,
good to know its a known issue and thnx for the workaround. This will do for the moment and I´m sure Chaosgroup will add this in upcoming versions.
            Thnx again

Any idea when this will be updated in the nightly builds? I am doing the method of subtracting all the beauty pass from the beauty itself for the missing pass. But as I have 10+ render layers in my scene this is extremely inefficient to do every time there is a new render.

Would that be a render element for basically the translucency effect of a 2sided mtl? That would be REALLY great to have actually.
I feel its pretty hard to get a correct looking translucency effect on certain materials in vray (leafs especially!), and having a pass for adjusting that in comp. Tweaking the strenght and the color would be very powerful!
