I not have such an error in maya GUI render
insteat I see in the log maya is loading the xgen.py of vray

do i need to "set" a parameter to load xgen.py in batch ?!?

      yes I did
but I assume the matter is maya itself

Is there an .abc file in the folder with the scene? It should be named like this: <SCENE_NAME>__<COLLECTION_NAME>.abc
In your case I think it should be this:
        "C:\Users\.....\Desktop\xgen\scenes\test__fur2.abc "

If there isn't one I suppose the exporting of that alembic file with the patches for batch render has failed.
Check the script console for errors while exporting the patches for batch render to .abc.

Are there any spaces in the path to the scene? If so, I would suggest using a different path - XGen is not good with paths with spaces in them. Try saving the scene directly in C:/ or D:/

Which version of Windows are you using? 7/8/8.1

Which service pack of Maya 2015 are you using? SP6? I saw some batch related comments in their changelog too but we were not aware of any such batch-related issues with V-Ray.

I could not reproduce this problem with SP5 and SP6 of Maya 2015.

          Hi,

I seem to be having a related problem. The patches seem to export, the file is in the correct place , i don't really get any error messages, but the hair remains static. No dynamics. No animation. When i import the abc file to a new scene it doesn't seem to have any moving elements to it. Should it look like the hair geometry? How can i check if it's worked or not?

Do you have to select anything before doing file- export patches for batch render? I'm not exactly sure which node the 'patches' actually are...

@Bertjenkins - The alembic file with the patches is just the source geo - all the objects on which xgen primitives are generated for the current description/collection. The hair is generated on-the-fly in batch using the alembic file and the .xgen file (the description).

When exporting the patches have you exported them as animated for a time range?

Yes. the movement starts at frame 80. It all plays fine and renders fine in the viewport and vfb. I've tried exporting the patches from frame 80 to 200 and from frame 0 to 200. Both don't work. As soon as you render the hair is stuck on frame 80 and doesn't move.

Did you enable the "Animated" checkbox in the dialog for patch export?

If it's not confidential, it will be best to send this part of the scene to the support for more detailed investigation. You may also try rendering with Mental Ray to see if it's producing the expected result.

@Bertjenkins - Do you atleast get the expected animated result when rendering from within maya? no batch stuff... When rendering straight from maya that alembic file with exported patches is not even required.

I will try to do this when i get a chance. It will take quite a while. In the mean time is there anything i can check for? I'm assuming that there is something wrong with the xgen file then, not the abc file. The animation data is not exporting. Is there any other way to do it? Any workarounds? how about exporting a vrscene file? I really need this render

sorry missed this one. yes rendering within maya is fine. setting off a render from the vfb gives the required result

i have changed the nucleus start time to frame 80. could this be a factor?
