  • frame buffer resolution cap?

    Hi,

Working on a project to output images at 20000x20000 or 28800x15000-ish, I couldn't use the frame buffer even if I specify to test render at 10% resolution (2000x2000) in Maya's render view window options.

Is there a cap resolution on Vray frame buffer and, if yes, is there is a way to remove the cap?

    Thanks!

V-Ray does not have a cap, but Maya's RenderView does. Currently the resolution of the two is linked, so Maya will allocate RAM for the render view even if we don't use it. A better solution would be to export a .vrscene and render with V-Ray Standalone.

If memory continues to be a concern, set the output format to .vrimg or .exr (multichannel), set the "Memory frame buffer" option to "None" or "Preview", export the .vrscene and render with V-Ray Standalone. If you chose .vrimg file, you can convert it to .exr using the vrimg2exr converter tool.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Thanks, Vlado. I realized at some point when tweaking render settings I set the Memory frame buffer to "None" and thought Vray frame buffer isn't working due to high rez.
Like you said, memory is the issue rendering on my box. I'll try output vrscene or do tile rendering via Deadline.

      cheers.
