displacement and red channel

  • displacement and red channel

    why do we still have to link only the red channel into the displacement of the shading group for vray...
    every other renderer is able to just use the defaul connected file node...

    Beecause life is a pain I you have to suffer!
    I just can't seem to trust myself
    So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

      I've just tried it and it just works.
      The default connection is file1.outAlpha -> displacementShader1.displacement.

      Probably you have the alpha is luminance turned off on you file texture node.
      If not sharing a scene might help us find what is going wrong.

        there is something displacing yes... but thats not how it should look like... i will upload the scene on monday...

          here is the scene... vray only works if you relink the dispmap to the red channel...
          mental ray, arnold and renderman works out of the box...

              maya scene and dispamp...

              it was to big i had to shrink them down... sorry...
              maybe you should upres the upload size...

                It looks like our OpenEXR reader expands 1-channel OpenEXR files to RGB, where only the red component is different from black. The displacement takes the average of the color, you get 1/3rd of the displacement.

                Will make a note to modify the EXR loader to recognize 1-channel files.
