  • xgen batch render missing

    Hi,

    I have xgen in my scene and it renders really well. When I batch render though, it is missing.

    I have followed this guide;

    http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...in+Maya+Batch#

    But when this window comes up

    I press export file but it doesn't seem to do anything? It just disappears and there are no external files in my project directory. Can someone please tell me what I have missed? Thanks.

    When you export patches for batch render, an alembic file is created/updated. Make sure first that the file is being created (by default it should be created in the same folder as your maya scene, and has the mayascenename__xgencollectionname.abc name structure). If the .abc file is there and you are rendering on other machines, make sure that all the xgen folders are accessible from other machines. Also I experienced the same problem using references in my scene, the issue happens when using namespace, causing mayabatch to fail to render xgen. In my case I render on many machines on a renderfarm (never tried mayabatch locally), and I solved by removing namespaces from my scene.

      Thanks!

      Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, no such file is being created at in the maya scene folder for me when I export patches. (abc file). I'm not sure what is going wrong because xgen is setup properly and renders with V-Ray in the Maya GUI.

      When exporting, nothing happens.

        In Maya batch, XGen requires alembic files. I'm not sure if Autodesk fixed all path related issues, like forward vs back slashes, empty spaces, big letters, path lengths... Just try with the simplest path possible.

          Hi Ivaylo, the problem is not with the linking of alembic files as V-Ray renders perfectly well in the GUI. The problem is with V-Ray rendering batch mode.

          Unfortunately following this does not produce a working result

            Hi - the issue was AbcExport.mll was supposed to be loaded. Might want to update the help file to include that as to stop people submitting bugs like myself in future!

              snivlem, XGen doesn't require alembic files to work in GUI mode, this is why VRay renders it. Also, XGen requires AbcExport.mll for the alembic export, not VRay . I.e. - this is for the Maya help, not ours

                I have a similar problem. Meanwhile i managed to batch render my xGen Archives/Geometries out of Maya but it works only if I use "ordinary" xGen-Expressions. When I load a paintmap for Example in the Length Slot, I'm getting a fine Render in the Framebuffer but my Batch Render is empty.

                Do you have any ideas? Thanks a lot.

                  I reproduced your problem. You can avoid it by starting the batch render not from Maya's GUI, but from the command line calling Render.exe and passing it the maya scene.

                  Also this problem does not exist in Maya 2016 - we are working on releasing V-Ray 3.1 in the near future which will have support for 2016 too.
