  • VRay 3.1 freezes Maya 2016 SP1 on Mac

    Hey guys,

Just downloaded the new build of VRay (3.10.01) for Maya 2016 for Mac (Yosemite) and unfortunately, once installed, when I go to the Plugin Manager and try to Load the VRay product, I get the spinny beachball of death and Maya simply locks up and I have to force quit the app. Maya will run fine as long as I don't try to load VRay, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Specifically, I've got Maya 2016 SP1 for Mac, running the latest OSX build (10.10.4) on my Macbook Pro. As an aside, my VRay license server does NOT live on my local machine, but another server elsewhere in the office.

    Any help would be appreciated.

If you run Maya from a terminal, can you paste here the output in the terminal? Generally that's how we run all our builds and we have not had this specific problem yet.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Hi Vlado,

Not sure I understand. I can launch Maya in terminal via open /Applications/Autodesk/maya2016/Maya.app, but the terminal window isn't displaying anything after that, just a prompt. But Maya hangs now on open because it's trying to autoload the VRay plug-ins and it still needs to be force quit. Are you looking for the Problem Report for Maya after I force quit?

Or is there some other way you want me to launch it? Sorry, my Mac terminal kung-fu is pretty weak.

Vlado - an update for you.

For some reason, the VRay installer had scooped up an older IP address for our VRay license server and I'd neglected to check it. That was the cause of the hangup - VRay couldn't connect to the license server and was just "stuck". EBCAC on my part it would seem. Once I updated it, I'm good to go.

Sorry for the wild goose chase.
