  • shadow pass problem

    Hi,

I have issues with the shadow pass in one of our render scenes. I reduced the scene so there is only a sphere left that casts a shadow from 2 lights onto a plane. The beauty looks ok with its two shadows, but the matteShadow lacks the core of one of the shadows. I attached screenshots and the scene. Not sure whats going on. Is this a bug or am i missing something?

This is a known bug. We are working on it.

      Thanks for the info, Ivaylo.
Do you have any suggestions for a workaround? A separate render layer with the plane set to 'matte object' gives me the same result. I know I could render the plane fully white with the shadow in black on it. Or catching one shadow at a time with several render layers seems to do the trick as well. I'm just asking because maybe you have another simple workaround up your sleeve.

There is something like a work-around, but it requeres a change to the workflow. Set the subdivions of the light to 1, or better - "Subdivs Mult" in the Render Settings/VRay/DMC Sampler to 0.0

I tried that, but I left the min shading rate in the image sampler at 10 which messed with the shadow pass again. But setting the subdivs in the lights and the min shading rate in the globals to 1 seems to work for now.
          thanks for your help!
