  • Still can't install Vray 3.1 Maya - OSX 10.11 Help!

    Hi all,

I am having a really hard time getting Vray installed for maya on OSX.

In terms of system settings, my account is an admin account, like normally when you install OSX. Everything has always worked fine, until OSX 10.11.

I have attached a screenshot of the error I am getting.

when I try to install I get a popup with this:

    "this program requires superuser privileges"

"you should run it as root, or use "sudo" to run it"

Neither I have had any success trying to do. I have no Vray currently :/

    Thanks!

Try with the 3.10 nightly builds from nightlies.chaosgroup.com
    V-Ray/PhoenixFD for Maya developer

I can't use the nightlies, since I am on an EDU license :/

I do have an expired temp adv license that was setup when I was testing vray beta for maya 2016, same thing, nightly builds doesn't work with EDU license.

Then you can only wait for the the next SP or some hot fix if the SP takes too much time. 10.11 is not officialy out or supported.

What you can also try is to install V-Ray for .zip file following the instructions bellow:
          http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...om+a+.zip+File

Let us know if that works or not.

Does OSX fall under "linux" in this guide?

You are correct the information is missing - this will be fixed for sure.
I'll try to find out that information and get back to you as soon as I have it.

Installation from .ZIP file documentation has been updated for OSX system also(the only difference is in step 6).

I just tried the steps outlined in that article and when I try to load the v-ray plugin through the plug-in manager I get the error

We have a known issue with V-Ray for Maya installations in graphical interface (GUI) mode under the new Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11).
This will be fixed soon. Until then we found another workaround - you can install V-Ray plugin or V-Ray license server without GUI by following the steps below:

                      1. Mount V-Ray installation - double click on vray_adv_31001_maya2016_mavericks_x64.dmg file.

                      2. Open the Terminal.app from /Applications/Utilities and execute the following command there:

                      /Volumes/V-Ray\ for\ Maya\ 2016\ x64/vray_adv_31001_maya2016_mavericks_x64.app/Contents/MacOS/vray_adv_31001_maya2016_mavericks_x64 -gui=0

(the above command should be a single line)

Then follow the installer's steps in the Terminal. After the V-Ray installation you need to reboot the machine or at least to log out and then log in.

If you need to install V-Ray License Server you should use the same steps.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

If you still want to use .ZIP installation please send us all V-Ray environment variables that you have set up in order to troubleshoot the issue further.

I ended up just disabling SIP in OS X and running the installer from terminal with sudo, and then re-enabled SIP after.
