  • V-Ray shaders in VP2/DX11

Are there any plans on making shaders show up (and not render black) in the viewport when using VP2 + DirectX11?
    Best Regards,

Yes, but when the new VP 2.0 Maya API gets finished (Maya 2017 hopefully). The original API that we use currently requires direct programming of the GPU and is quite limited, so no plans to port it to DirectX. Btw, why would you like to use DirectX? Basically, these are different APIs to program the same thing. If one perform better then another, it's mostly because of a driver/software issue.

Ok, this is good to know. The only reason why we might want to run VP2 + DX11 (in 2017) is because of using Microsoft Remote Desktop (doesn't work under VP2+OpenGL). But I'm not even sure we will be running VP2+DX11 in this case... We might use the legacy viewport instead, when using Remote Desktop. I'm investigating how to deal with VP2+MS RD so to speak and so I just wanted to hear what you guys were planning here.

Hm, yes MS... We will move to the new API next year. Hopefully it will be fully supported in Maya 2017. It may be able to run in Maya 2016/2015 with some limitations (no V-Ray lights). IMO, older Maya version will not be able to use it.
