The button "Show Vrmat Editor" does work on Maya 2016 EXT1 SP4 Windows

The vismat editor is not supported with Maya 2016. There are some V-Ray builds with this button, but does nothing.

We are looking for a way to get Vrmat editor working in Maya 2016, but unfortunately we don't have any success so far.
So most probably the next service pack will also have this limitation.
