  • particle instances - insanely long lead-up time to render

hi guys, i'm really at a loss (and short of time), so please bear with me: we have a scene for an aerial perspective, which renders just fine (i.e. the geometry, textures and shaders etc.).

Now for the trees we used a script of ours, which basically scatters particles to certain positions, gives them 10 or so IDs and instances loads of trees in form of vray proxies to those. we have about 10 different particle systems in the scene, each loading the same 10 proxies. Now once we hit render, it takes literally 5 hours or so before vray starts to do the lc computation! What could be causing this?

Here is the output log until it gets stuck:

and here it hangs for 5 HOURS before it renders away. Anyone??

What is the memory usage? Try turning on "Use local Ray server" and if turning off view dependent subdivision/displacement if you are maxing out your memory:

from the link you sent i take it this is a mesh Attribute - what to apply it to, though? The proxies?

You can apply it to the shape (meshShape) node. It's one of the nodes within a vray proxy object.

I will try that, but when the system hangs it has 4% CPU usage and RAM doesn't go above half the system's memory

              Hi,

Is there any chance to get this scene for testing ? It will be easier for us to troubleshoot it further.
